Spreading the Champlain Love

It’s that time of year again. Constant posts about everyone’s significant others and how much they mean to them. Chocolates and flowers are the first thing you see when you walk into any store. Valentine’s Day is a time to embrace the love we have for each other and a reminder to always appreciate those who matter to us. Valentine’s Day doesn’t always have to be about sappy love romances though; it’s also a day to recognize things we love in our everyday lives. Living here in Burlington, Vermont, I think it’s only appropriate to write a post about what I love about this beautiful town and specifically what I love about Champlain College.

The Community

Champlain College is a very special place. In my opinion, there is no other like it. The one thing that makes it so special are those who encompass the community. The combination of all of the unique personalities on campus has a way to make EVERYONE feel accepted as they are without any judgement.

The New CCM Building

Screen Shot 2016-02-13 at 1.42.50 PM August of 2015 was a very special time for Champlain College. Champlain is generally a small school, but this was a time of new expansion. 74,000 square feet of pure excellence. The new CCM building has everything from our EATS center- serving everything from Caesar salads to loaded tater tots – to an incredible new sound studio space. Interested in music? We now have a space that is dedicated to recording music for personal use or even to use in any type of project. The new building also has an on-campus curator, Chris Thompson, who hosts around 15 different art events a semester. So if music isn’t your thing, we now have a space for you to check out amazing art made by fellow students, professors, or our very own community members!

The Game Labs

The Game Labs here at Champlain are another reason to love this school even more. Being one of the best game programs in the nation, you could say that the game majors have a lot of work. Because it’s so competitive, the students need a space to themselves to be able to focus and collaborate on their work. In order to help with this, Champlain has several game labs on campus that are specifically designed for those in the game majors! Everyone in these areas of study have access to these rooms using their ID card, so whether it’s 4 PM or 4 AM, you are guaranteed to have a nice warm spot to get your work done.

The Incredible Views

One of the most common things we hear as Student Ambassadors giving tours- “WHAT A VIEW!” We know! Whether you’re looking from the third floor in the library or out the window in the new CCM Advisor Area, there’s a good chance that you will have a postcard-worthy view every time. There’s nothing like being incredibly overwhelmed in the library by midterms or finals and being able to walk home and just appreciate the beautiful nature that is surrounding you. It has this admirable way of destressing you without you hardly even realizing. If you are a sucker for sunsets, Champlain College has your name all over it.

The Location

Screen Shot 2016-02-13 at 1.47.32 PMThe final thing that deserves some loving is Burlington, Vermont itself. What an incredible location. With 5 surrounding colleges in the area, you could say Burlington is a big college town. Champlain College is just one of those contributors. If you walk 10 minutes down the hill from our campus you will find yourself on Church Street, full of shops and local restaurants. Walk another 10 minutes and you will find yourself at Lake Champlain. Burlington is known for being right between Boston and Montreal, so because of this, we also get amazing bands in our little city! It’s a win-win.

So if you start feeling sad about not being able to share your love for another significant other on this day, just remember, Champlain College is a reason to share the love!
